Gir National Park

Gir National Park is the only spot outside of Africa where one can watch a lion in its native environment. As everyone knows, Gir is the sole native home of the widely renowned Asiatic Lions. With an average length of 2.75 metres, Gir Asiatic lions are magnificent creatures with longer tails, bushier elbow tufts, and visible belly folds relative to their African cousins, which have larger manes. It was the noble attempt of the Nawabs of Junagadh who safeguarded the Lions in their exclusive hunting grounds. Officials from the Department of Forests eventually stood up to save the most endangered species on the planet. The state government estimated the number of lions at 674 in May 2020, which is 29% more than the 523 estimates from 2015.
